As long as we are off-topic........
I still regard Epson as the #1 choice for photo printing. They do require a bit of TLC, and they have gotten a bad rap from people who don't want to be bothered.

No maintenance--HP. Replace the head with the ink cartridge.

Canon: Replaceable head, but not the same range of choices for 3rd-party ink

Epson: No replaceable head, but perhaps none needed. Learn to keep it clean and how to clean it. Huge range of option for 3rd-party ink, CFS, etc. (If the head DOES fail, buy a new (used) printer)

Last I checked, HP and Epson were supporting Linux---Canon not.

epson printers..I've found annoying for a few reasons.

* in an older model I had the ink carrier would try to reset during an ink refilling while the hatch was open. This of course damaged the sliders.

* newer models have micro chips that go off even before the ink is finished which fortunately I can reset with the acquired device yet without this if even one color runs out the entire printer shuts down...only to miraculously come to life with one or all the cartridges replaced.

* if you don't use the printer for three weeks then you're sure to get gaps.

If a person uses their epson printer regularly and has replacement cartridges at the ready then fine. It is probably a decent unit. The expense of replacement at such frequent intervals is the issue..and my issue..so shame on me for going off topic.

It is an interesting thread started here. Will Dell, Toshiba, etc etc begin following suit. Will they all have Novell-Microsoft installed on them. Will Windows be obsolete in ten years as so many people have gripes with it.

I personally enjoy all computing and os's but I have to admit I get a little leary when I hear of a major movement toward linux. I've enjoyed the fact that all/most of the spyware virus activity in windows can be left behind with a restart into linux.
