YaST not working

i have just installed openSuse-10.3 and am facing trouble playing .avi and .mpeg media using the totem player.
I tried to follow the instructions given in the sticky thread to set the repositories for YaST but YaST is not being able to connect to the internet.Thats probably because i use internet via a proxy.
so i set the proxy http and ftp variables on command prompt like i use to do in fedora before using yum. But YaST is still not working.

How to fix this prob ?

For SuSE 10.3, use the repositories found in the Community Repositories section.

Did you enter the proxy in YaST2 -> Network Services -> Proxy? Did you do this for ftp as well?

Do other http and ftp services work?
