Xwindows config 9.3

hi there linux beginer here. wanted to start exploring linux and a co- worker gave me a copy (5-cd) of suse 9.3

Question below w/o story lol

i installed it normal installation mode. but when i first loaded it the monitor didnt seem to be working correctly. so i installed it via text mode. worked great. but after installling all 5 cd's screen went black. and was like that indefinatly. reset system, i do have a shell to work with. linux is installed but no GUI. friend told me to look on the net a a xwindows configure how-to. needless to say i couldnt find anything to fit my needs. my system is a pIII 733 256 ram on board video by way of intel mother board. i had 2 hard drives on it a 40g which has windows and a 10g slave that i intalled the suse 9.3 to. could someone help me with.....

how do i set of my GUI/Xwindows on suse 9.3
im running my monitor of the onboard graphics supplied by a intel motherboard. its a p3 733 if that matters.

could some one help walk my through or point me to some good articles on the matter.

thanks alot,
skot

be root

change to runlevel 3:

init 3

(you may have to log in again depending on the system)

run sax:

sax2

it should detect your hardware and configure X

if this doesn't work get all the info like graphics card and monitor resolutions and refresh rates and run:

xf86config

after you configure X you can start it like this:

startx
