Exclamation winxp booting still unresolved after trials

I have WinXP and Suse 9.1 installed on my pc
For a week they worked fine, then, while I was running windows, the pc shut down and rebooted in the default configuration, that is linux.
-from that moment on I was no longer able to boot from windows, it gave me the message

root (hd 0,0)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
chainloader +1

i tried to solve it as indicated in
portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/05/fhassel_windows_not_booting91.html,

but the bios trick had no effect (i.e. i can only put lba large access mode on auto or disabled),
and the driver update neither, because it told me that the patrition table was ok, thus did not need to be repaired

then i tried to use qtparted, but linux freezes when it tries to retrieve information on the windows partition.

the windows partition is mounted on linux, and i cannot manage to unmount it, and when i type ls to see windows files it gives me an input/output error

then i tried with grub conf:
the file device.map is as follows:

(hd0) /dev/sda (windows)
(hd1) /dev/sdb (linux)
(fd0) /dev/fd0/

and the file menu.lst has in windows part:

root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

i tried to make some changes as suggested in other posts but i got error messages when booting windows

how can i do?

thanks

It sounds like you'll have to try the repair Windows XP option using the windows xp disc. This will
overwrite your grub start-up instructions - so it might be worth making a boot floppy in Suse first (yast - system - boot loader configuration / click on the boot loader location and edit the settings to dev/fdo and save the settings).
