I am being tasked with creating a SLED 10 desktop image to roll out to a portion of our organization. We will then use Zen to distribute it.

What is the best way to go about this? AutoYast?

Probably the easiest is to do a manual install first, having it generate an autoyast.xml file when finished. Then you can tune the autoyast file as needed.

Haven't used zen, so no ideas for that. With autoyast xml you can pretty much do a image install, if everything is set the right way. Why do you want a full image ?

Copy the cd data/packages to some local share (ftp/http/nfs )with installation source . This makes you a nice repository to be used in installation. You can use the same repo for as many autoyast xml-files as you want.

You dont need as much data as you would need with using a full image (like RIS needs in MS world).

Autoinstallation image contains everything for image deployment. Packages can be added/removed from default unattended installation, network services can be configured, root password, partitioning, keyboard layout,...
