What is good video resolution settng for card/monitor?

I just upgraded from novell suse linux 9.3 to Novel suse linux 10.0 and I really like the change. The autoinstall set up my hardware properly, however, my screen resolution is so high that I almost need a magnafying glass to read text. Here are my settings:
Monitor set at 1600x1200 (uxga) 16 bit 65536 colors Gateway VX720 monitor
15 inches diag aspect ration 4/3
x axis 310 mm y axis 230
sync freq 30 96 khz horizontal 50 160 hz vertical

I have a 17 inch monitor, so I do not understand why it says I have a 15 inch diagonal? Also, when I tried to run super tux racer, the screen stayed blank, I could hear music, and the monitor displayed in a red box that the display frequency was wrong. I had no problem playing tux racer when I was using suse 9.3. I used YOU to install the nvidia driver. I do not see the nvidia splash screen when I boot, so I am not sure if the driver was installed. I am using the nvidia tnt 16meg card.

It seems that SuSE has defaulted to setting monitors to their hightst possible resolution. I had the same problem.

To fix it, from the Kde menu, select System -> Configuration -> Sax2, and reconfigure the card/monitor settings.
