Suse Python Dev

Hi guys, I am having an issue installing the python development libraries on SUSE. I am familiar with installing them using apt-get and package manager on Debian distros. I cannot find them with yast and have no idea where to look.

It may depend on which version of SUSE you're using. For example, on openSUSE 11.4, if you go into yast, select Software Management, then from the view tab, select Patterns, under the Development section, there's a Python pattern.

Different Python versions appear to be available, from the standard repository as well as from
Code:
devel:languages:python
via the OBS ( openSUSE Build Service ) repositories. That's the view of things that I get, using a 64-bit machine. Heres's a link to a page that is a jumping off point for all sorts of info. on
repositories ( for openSUSE ):

Thanks for the info. We are using the enterprise edition. I found this in the release notes on SUSE.com

Quote:
Novell provides a Software Development Kit (SDK) for SUSE Linux Enterprise 11. This SDK contains libraries, development-environments and tools along the following patterns:

C/C++ Development

Certification

Documentation Tools

GNOME Development

Java Development

KDE Development

Linux Kernel Development

Programming Libraries

.NET Development

Miscellaneous

Perl Development

Python Development

Qt 4 Development

Ruby on Rails Development

Ruby Development

Version Control Systems

Web Development

YaST Development
I am guessing it must be chosen during the install since I don't see it in yast
