SuSE Displa Size

Ok well I installed Linux SuSE 10.1 yesterday but I have a problem with the screen size. When I go to Configure Desktop > Display, the maximum resolution it gives me is only 800 X 600, when I know the resolution on my XP is 1280 X 1024. I ran Sax2 from the terminal and changed it to 1280 X 1024 but all of the icons and everything else are all distorted and "smushed." How can I change the display size to 1280 X 1024 and have it look normal.

BTW, I have an Acer AL1716 LCD Monitor, incase that helps at all.

are you upgrading to 10.1 from 10.0? if it worked in 10.0 then it should work in 10.1...

or maybe did you just let SuSE configure the monitor for you or have you tried to manually do you X-configuration?
