Hi, i'm new in linux and i would appreciate some help!
My system is: pentium iii 1000mhz, msi 694t pro( with the last bios-2002),nvidia tnt 32mb, 448 mb ram, d-530tx network card.
i first installed suse 7.3 and i have no hardware problem. Next i installed suse 9.2 pro and i had two major problems:
1) during installation i received a message that my bios is old (from 1997) and acpi can't installed. After suse installed i have to shut down computer manually-no other way. i have try some commands ( acpi=force etc.) nothing changed.
2) i can't have resolution bigger than 800X600 in my monitor although it support it. I have try some things, i reinstalled suse manually nothing changed!
Can anyone give me some advice?
but maybe i didn't make it clear. i have the latest bios (2002) for my mobo and i know it is acpi. The system was shuting down properly with suse 7.3 and Red hat fedora 3. Suse reports my bios version as very old ( 1997). I tried the commands you suggested, and the results was that my computer begins the operations to shutdown ,but the last screen is "the sustem is down", but then i have to push the power button in order to shutdown.
The last line in text mode is:
stty: standard input:unable to perform all requested operations
That error looks like something you would see if your trying to hang up on a serial connection or something else that pertains to controlling a serial port.
try force=acpi pci=noacpi
