SuSE 9.1 refuses to install -- not enough memory -- need help with text install
I finally managed to get the computer to boot off of the install CD (SuSE 9.1 Personal... from an ISO download). Now when I try to install, these are the last 3 lines of text displayed:
VFS: Mounted root (minix filesystem).
Moving into tmpfs...Out of memory: killed process 181 (linuxrc).
VFS: Cannot open root device <"null"> or unknown-block (8,5)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (8,5)
I've tried entering "linux mem=64M" as suggested by the SuSE knowledge base, but had no luck. If I enter "root=/dev/hda2" I get the message
"VFS: Mounted root (minix filesystem).
Moving into tmpfs...Out of memory: killed process 181 (linuxrc).
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on hda2"
I believe the same thing happened when I tried hda and presumably hda1 as well. I believe the computer has 64MB of ram.
Oh, and I'm very inexpierienced with Linux, disk partitions, etc. so I'd appreciate it if you would give as much detail as possible.
Thank you very much.
