SuSe 9.1 personal install problems
I'm trying to install Suse 9.1 personal onto an older machine. AMD K6/2-350, FIC 503+ mb, 256Mb ram, 40 gig WD EIDE drive, 2 cd-roms, Kingston KNE120TX nic (to my router/cable modem). I have run M$ Win95/ME, RedHat 5.2 & 9.1 on it, and (successfully) installed Debian, although I have decided I wwant Suse instead. The Live Eval CD works, although VERY slowly.
I d/l the 9.1 home from the Illinois (USA) mirror, everything checked out. Burned the CD.
First attempt to install (graphical install) gave me about 40 dependency errors (I only added a few packages, but even YaST & OpenOffice had dependency issues!), but tried to install anyway. Stopped it 3 hours later at 26%.
Second attempt (again, graphical install) I went for all the defaults - NO changes. 2 hours later, at 5%, I stopped it.
Third attempt (text-based install) was 'safe install'. I let it run overnight. 7 hours later, it was at 14%.
What's up? Any suggestions? Is there a trick I'm missing?
Thanks!
