SuSE 9.1 - installation problems rebuilding with new MoBo
Hi All
I had been running SuSE9.1 without problem on several machines and for some time. The hard disc controller on my main machine blew, trashing the disc and, to cut a long story short, I have a new hardware configuration.
Trying to re-install 9.1 (via NFS), the system is freezing at the point where it finds kernel modules for installation (not always exactly the same module). Once I managed to get as far as configuring my discs (RAID configuration) and the freeze didn't occur until it got as far as formatting /boot. (A 1Gb partition - it had already done a 1Gb and my 109Gb raid partitions with no problems.)
Original (working) hardware configuration: Gigabyte GA7VA MoBo with Athlon XP2200+. Old fashioned ATA disc.
New configuration: Gigabyte GA7N400 Pro2 with original processor, SATA discs.
* I have tried installing using both the internal NIC and a RTL8129 external (known working) to eliminate any possible problems with the network.
* I have tried "Safe Settings" for installation.
* System runs Knoppix (from CD) with no problems, although it doesn't see the SATA discs.
Can anyone give me any pointers as to what's amiss? System ran fine for 15 minutes doing "various stuff" with Knoppix, enough to eliminate dodgy hardware, in my mind.
Er, help?!
Cheers & TIA
Matthew
