Question Suse 9.1 ftp client default TYPE effected by different servers

The standard ftp client "ftp" default file type varies depending on which ftp server I connect to. For me this is strange since the TYPE is defined by the client, not the server.

scenarios:

Suse ftp client connects to 3cdaemon server and the default type is binary.

Suse ftp client connects to filezilla server and the default type is ascii.
