SUSE 11 shutdown/reboot issues.

Hello,

I am usning Ubuntu as desktop for a while now. Received Open suse11 dvd this week with magzine subscription. So just wanted to try it to feel it. Its a nice OS with lot of packages that are not available by default with others one of them being Mono.
I am thinking of putting Suse to use but I am facing issues with shutdown and reboot. Whenever I shutdown or reboot the system, it almost completes and the progress bar stops at the end and nothing happens. It does not reboot or shutdown and I have to power off the system directly. What might be the issue? Just for info, I had the same problem while I tried Ubuntu Hardy.

Press the escape key. What is the last thing that was being done. One thing that can sometimes cause problems is with usb external drives. On my laptop, I get a problem with interupts if a SD card is in the slot. On my old laptop and my desktop, I'll see a rare instance where an external usb drive will stall the boot process. I've had this happen in both Linux and Windows, and pulling the usb cable, allows the boot process to continue.

I think most likely, a partition can't be unmounted for some reason since this is occurring during shutdown. Also, try removing the "resume=..." entry from the kernel boot options when booting up. Just delete the entry one time when booting instead of modifying the menu.lst file. I have a bit of a feeling that the pause could be caused by problems trying to write the memory to the swap partition.

Another thing I need to tell is that though shutdown works fine, reboot still has the same issue. I need to power off the system and then again on it if there is need to reboot it.
