Suse 10 won't boot without CD

Hi

1.
I have only recently upgrade a machine that previously ran Suse 9.3 to Suse 10 and have a really strange problem that I never had before. Just for clarity, I have now also done a fresh install of Suse 10 to see if the problem may have been caused by the upgrade but to no avail.

The problem is simple - Suse 10 won't boot up without CD1 being in the drive. I have installed Suse 10 on /dev/hda3, which is the same place Suse 9.3 was previously installed.

I did think that maybe Suse 10 expects to be installed on /dev/hda1, but because of the way in which the disk has previously been partitioned, I have data on that partition and would like to avoid moving it around.

I have also re-run the boot loader to see if that would help - but with no luck.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks
O.

Since you have access to it why not log in as root, click terminal and type

grub-install /dev/hda

(change hda to sda for Sata or any other designation of your first bootable disk)

If the above fails then you may have a defective or incomplete /boot/grub/menu.lst. So list its content here plus the content of /boot which holds the names of kernels and initrds.
