rpm groups?

How do you install an rpm group in yast? If I could do it with zypper I would do that instead, but I don't see a way to do that.

In yast if I click on a group, it shows a list of packages. I am supposed to then select which packages I want? In other words, the group is not a selection of packages, e.g. what I need to compile typical GNU software. Is that right?

A group is a name for some packages which you may or may not want to install to achieve the purpose of the group?

In zypper the objects most similar to groups are patterns. You can view a list of available patterns by means of
Code:
zypper patterns
and you can retrieve information or install a pattern by means of
Code:
zypper info -t pattern <name_of_pattern>
zypper in -t pattern <name_of_pattern>
