Root users

In mandrake you are able to execute the root user cmd and have keys in the systray....this allowed you to do anything you wanted to....how do I do this in SuSE....I'm trying to unzip a tar.gz somewhere but don't have permissions

Use the su command:
su

It will ask you for the root password and you will be running with root permissions.

Thats only for the command line...how about in the GUI?

You can start gui programs using konsole or whatever.

the ones that require the su and are gui programs can be run with sux before the program name. The command is short for SuperUserXsystem I think. The X system is where kde and gnome live.
