program failed to compile, now what?

I'm a film student from the far off and mystical land of Canada!

I installed SuSe 9.1 from the evaluation DVD they sent a friend of mine, after hearing about an editing program called Cinelerra. Today I downloaded the tarball and after untaring, I './configure'd with no error messages. after typing make the program started to compile....or so I thought. For when I typed make install as the final stage of the installation process I got the following error message:

Quote:
from the Konsole (I figured it would be best to do this under root so I wouldn't come across any "permission denied" messages

make -f build/Makefile.cinelerra install
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/Blocko/Documents/cinelerra-1.2.2'
make -C cinelerra install
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/Blocko/Documents/cinelerra-1.2.2/cinelerra'
rm -f /usr/bin/cinelerra
cp i686/cinelerra /usr/bin
cp: cannot stat `i686/cinelerra': No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [install] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/Blocko/Documents/cinelerra-1.2.2/cinelerra'
make[1]: *** [install] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/Blocko/Documents/cinelerra-1.2.2'
make: *** [install] Error 2
linux:/home/Blocko/Documents/cinelerra-1.2.2 #
So is that it? Is there anything else I can do? Or is it just not going to compile?

Perhaps you need to "mkdir /usr/bin/i686/cinelerra" as root first?
And then run "make_install" again.

I was getting that as well.

If you look further up in the compile, you'll see errors (not warnings) coming from the compiler, so I don't think the executable compiled at all.

It could be the compiler version you're using, or the package could just be broken. Try the binary packages from their website - the Fedora one worked for me (I'm using Fedora Core 3).
