Probleam after compiling older kernel

Hi

I've just compiled an older kernel in my Suse 9.3. I compiled 2.6.8.1 so that my winmodem works.
However, i'm having other problems now!!!
For example, Suse doesn't automount CDs nor DVDs anymore (i left the other kernel also and it automounts), after i Installed packman's xine, it works with the default kernel but it doesn't with the one i compiled (it opens xine but then the splash screen stays and it doesn't let me do anything)

Why did the older kernel screwed my Suse??? can i fix it?

Thanks

Only thing I can think of is that you might have misconfigured the kernel ...
but I doubt that answers your problem .
Or that you haven't properly installed it .

Maybe this kernel howto is helpful :

The submount/subfs modules need to be compiled separately. You can get them from sourceforge or as SUSE rpms (km_submount).
The later can be compile with the following commands:

Code:
cd /usr/src/kernel-modules/subfs
make KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux-2.6.xx-xxx modules
cp subfs.ko /lib/modules/2.6.xx-xxx/kernel/fs/subfs
depmod 2.6.xx-xxx
