I am from Ubuntu and had little experience with Suse, I believe OpenSuse works the same.

I have a Brother multi function printer, it got the Linux installer and worked with Ubuntu, I install it on OpenSuse and all goes smooth, until the step to set default printer, the system ask for the root password to do so, I only have the admin user password but not usable, then I skip the step and change the printer connection from USB to network. On Ubuntu I use 'find printer' and it will pop up and use it, but on OpenSuse I couldn't do that, I don't know the IP address and I never use it on Ubuntu, it used some kinds of DNS lookup to locate the printer, what do I do now with OpenSuse ?

your best tool is the CUPS web interface
http://localhost:631/
( you will NEED the root password for this )


but if you want you could use yast

click on "kickoff" / computer / yast
( type in the root password)
and under "Hardware" click on Printer
