OpenSUSE not showing up in GRUB... have Windows 7 along with it.
Hi guys, this is my first thread on Linuxquestions...
So, I just installed my OpenSUSE on my computer that already has Windows 7 on it.
I shrunk my windows 7 OS hard drive, leaving some space for OpenSUSE.
I then inserted my disk with OpenSUSE on it and booted it up. Installed it onto my hard disk; everything seemed to go perfectly.
Until I restarted my computer after installation. I got to the GRUB screen, and there were only three options:
1. Windows 1
2. Windows 2
3. Floppy
If I choose Windows 1, my computer boots Windows 7 normally. Nothing wrong with that.
If I choose Windows 2, the Windows dual boot screen comes up. The first option in the dual boot is Windows 7. If I choose that Windows 7 boots up normally. The second option, however, is the OpenSUSE 12.1 installer. I chose that, and an error message showed up telling me that I should insert my recovery disk (which I have) and use it to fix my computer.
I'm confused. I tried reinstalling OpenSUSE two more times; the same error pops up both times. Anyone had this problem before?
Thanks for any input.
During the installation of Opensuse, you have a page labelled Live Installation Settings and one of the sub-headings is Booting. If you click on Booting, you will get a new window with two tabs labelled Section Management which shows the proposed boot menu and Bootloader Installation which gives you some options on installing the bootloader. Do you recall what you selected here? Under Booting, boot from mbr is disabled by default as I recall.
Did you use the keyboard down arrow to make sure you saw all the entries?
I don't know why you would be seeing a selection for the Opensuse installer? What recovery disk are you referring to, window 7?
When I installed Opensuse 12.1, after the installation was completed there was a pop-up informing of that and telling me to reboot and remove the installation CD. After rebooting, there was an Automatic Configuration which ran for a few minutes doing updates before the install was finished. Did your installation complete and did you removed the installation CD?
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. However, I kind of screwed up my computer by trying to delete all of the OpenSUSE partitions. I did use my Windows repair disk to make my computer able to be booted up again.
That means that I deleted OpenSUSE from my computer.
So... I can't really use your help for my problem (which is pretty much gone now). Sorry.
Thanks for the help, though.
