OpenSUSE 10 Beta 1 installation problems

I figured considering a lot of people are going to (or are already) download it, there's gonna be some installation probs. Might as well have a thread for it

Plus, I have an installation problem with it myself:
I select the Gnome desktop installation, it starts slamming packages on the harddrive and when it is supposed to start bugging me to insert the second installation disk, it finalizes installation and reboots. If I pull the CD out of the drive, it can't find an operating system (guess grub isn't installed or configured yet) and if I leave the CD in, I start from scratch.

I tried an "Minimum System" installation (which stats "Cannot solve dependencies automatically. Manual intervention required" which turned out to be dependencies linked to some graphical libraries you don't want with a minimal system installation), but the same thing happens: installation seems to require CD4 to finalize, but it never askes for it, finishes up and reboots.

Anyone else with this problem?

Silly thing: burning the iso's with K3B seems to foobar them slightly. They don't pass the selftest of the installation procedure. I have the same problem with SUSE 9.3 (just tried it). Still weird, because the MD5sum of the iso is correct. And I don't have this problem with any other ISO's (like Gentoo, Ubuntu and SLES9 to name a few I've burned the past few weeks).

Gonna try another cdr program I guess

I tried to burn an ArkLinux ISO image a couple of weeks ago and didn't have any luck in K3B either. I'm wondering if there's some secret button or checkbox you're supposed to click that I don't know about

Pathetic me has been using Nero on Windows

I want to say that I have the same problems with Suse 10 laast beta. I downloaded them yesterday. I burned the Isoś with K3b on Mandrake.

I wanted to installe Suse 10 beta on a IBM thinkpad. I tried Ubuntu (very ungly) and Mephis(better) and Mandrake(nice) on the same computer and no problem. But Suse is I like very nice, very user friendly. With Suse 9.3 I never had problems.

I am happy that I not the only one with this problem.

Could it help to burn the ISO ś with Nero?

I had no problem burning the 4 disks for OpenSUSE beta1 using k3b on my Debian system. Heck I even kept it on auto, it stayed around 37-42 burn speed. It checks the mds before it burns and tests the media after the burn.

Installed using KDE with no problems. Kinda freaked me out when it rebooted after the first disk, then again after it did the online update and installed the new kernel.

Being used to Debian I never reboot. It looks like it is a good distro I can see why so many people recommend it to newbies. The install was very easy. Now if I could only figure out the YAST thing I would be having fun.

YAST is fairly easy to use. In beta 2 quite a few things don't work properly in yast e.g. the printer config tool, hopefully these problems will be fixed soon.

My problem is finding and adding repositories, right now all I have is the cd, and the one listed to install OpenOffice and Java.

I can't seem to get anymore to add. I get an error every time.

Oh well some nice person will offer to walk me through it.

Not on my system... Tried to burn Beta 2 with Nero yesterday, but it still doesn't work. When I download the files, the MD5sum is fine, so is the check build in with K3B. But the selfcheck during install fails and SUSE still doesn't ask for the second, third, fourth and/or fith disk. Never had this problem with any other distro...

The problem that Suse 10 beta 2 is missing operating system after booting for the second cd I have solved now.

What I did, first installed an old version of 9.2 of Suse. After that I installed Suse 10 beta 2 and
than choose for update. Now Suse 10 beta 2 had no problems after rebooting and asking
for cd 2. This is a long way to install it but it works for me.

Maybe Suse 10 beta 2 is not writing Grub into the Mbr or it is not working direct with an
Ibm Thinkpad?

After installing you can do an update of your installation, then the new kernel will be installed form cd.

But now I look at Suse 10 beta 2, it is very nice, little problems with the wirelless card via Usb, I had to install Rpm for that I found quik via the Suse forum. Could not find first ipconfig and iwconfig, but with whereis I found them and enter the full path to execute them.

Ubuntu worked direct on the Ibm Thinkpad but is Gnome, that I do not like, I find it ugly.
I installed also Kde on Ubuntu but get problems with the wireless card. The pc was hanging after 10 minutes and could only reboot by off/on button. Also Firefox is not working under KDE, because it is compiled for Gnome?
