opensuse 10.3 suspend/resume/shutdown

Hi there, I am using openSUSE 10.3
Kernal 2.6.22.....

Inspiron 6000 and i've checked the HCL list and my machine is purely compatible.

Its the latest kernel. I've had no problems with suspend and resume before. Installed vmware and things were good.

Lately, I've had to turn the laptop off as it froze on me.
Since then when the lappy goes in suspend mode, it wont resume.

Comes up with a black screen and some green horizontal lines on the top of the screen.

Even when I Shutdown its the same, it goes off though.
But instead of getting the green screen that used to say 'Press Esc for more details' i get a black screen with green horizontal lines at the top.
Even when i press escape, it makes no difference.

The fact that it was working properly earlier gives me a hope that this problem could be resolved. I am not really sure how to go about this.

help appreciated
many thanx
