nVidia 7950GT not detected

Hey
My nVidia 7950GT is not being detected properly, and does not have 3D acceleration enabled. I have downloaded and installed the latest Linux drivers from nvidia.com, and now my 2D runs smoothly. However, the 3D acceleration doesn't seem to work.

In SAX2, the card is listed as "VESA Framebuffer Graphics" and the "Activate 3D Acceleration" box is greyed out but ticked. In my xorg.conf it shows it as using the "nvidia" driver.

The card is running on a PCI-E x16 slot, on an MSI K9VGM-V motherboard. The card is fully functional under windows XP.

Since it says 'vesa', the drivers are not installed correctly. If you paste your entire xorg.conf file, the experts around here can pick it apart. Did you get kernel-source installed and successfully compile the driver from a terminal window?
