Multiple Processes Appearing!

I run an quite a lot of simoltaneous applications, and some
create LOADS of processes: arts has made up to 200, skype about 80...
lot's of things... I've upped the voltage on the ram, but there are still problems!

Any takers?
Could it be a GLIBC problem?
