You'll need to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Without knowing your mouse type and where it is located in /dev, my only advice right now is to look at the "Mouse" section in that file and edit it to suit your hardware. An alternative would be to use a configuration utility such as xorgcfg -textmode, which must be run with root privileges.

Well I tried and still can't get it to work. I tried yast in the terminal, told it was a usb mouse and nothing. I even used a USB to PS/2 to converter. Nothing works.

Here's what worked for me:
Alt-F2 to get the run window - enter yast
enter root password
cursor down to hardware
tab to devices and cursor to mouse
YaST will initialize the mouse and it should work
I did this on a number of boots and eventually the problem went away, perhaps because I ran sax2 to configure the mouse. I tried so many things, I'm not sure on what worked permanently.
