You may also need to fire up KPowersave (usually there will be an icon in your KDE tray) and make sure that it is not set up to turn off the monitor. In general, you seem to have to disable power management in three places:
1) KDE control center - Peripherals, Monitor
2) Sax2 - Monitor, Advanced
3) Kpowersave - disable monitor power management
To the earlier poster, the originator of this thread may have the same reason for not wanting to power down the monitor that I have. My CRT monitor does not achieve its full accurate focus until it is warmed up. So the first five minutes or so of operation are less than optimal. If the monitor is constantly powering itself down when you turn away from it for short periods of time, it seems that it is never sharply focused. This is quite annoying! Of course, getting a good LCD monitor would resolve that, but my old CRT is a 20" Sony that I paid a lot of money for a few years ago - I still want to get some value from it!
