Monitor blinks off after kernal loads

First attemp at linux, I bought the Suse 10 Distro. Right after the progress bar for "installing linux kernal" finishes, the monitor goes black and never recovers. I have tried the CDs, the DVD, I have tried 32 bit and 64 bit, I have tried acpi disabled. I have also tried changing the monitor resolution to 640x480.

I have
DFI RS482 mobo
AMD 3700+
virgin WD 320
NEC DVD
1 gig ram
ancient 13" compaq CRT monitor.

This is not a good way to start out. I was assuered SuSe 10.0 was 'at least as easy to install as Windows'. I REALLY don't want to be stuck with that cursed XP...

try connecting your monitor on some other machines having low resolution. If your monitor doesn't gets on there too........then better start preparing for the funeral ceremony .

So you think it's my monitor, is that what you're saying? That would be nice if that's all it is, but it would also mean I have to buy a new monitor...

actually once i faced this type of problem. i incresed the resolution to 1024x.... on my 15 inch monitor....it went black. So then i plugged the monitor to another machine have resolution at 800x640. There i changed the resolution to some lower value and plugged back to the original machine. Everything worked fine then.
So i adviced u to try plugging it on some other machine.

regards
