Microsoft Intelli Explorer Mouse in SuSE 9.2

I have a USB Intelli Explorer mouse that works fine except for the two buttons on the side (forward and back) don't work in any of the web browers I have. Has anyone had any luck getting these to work? Thanks

I also have an intellimouse, but plugged into the ps/2 port. Same thing. Best I can tell, you would need to edit your X configuration file in the mouse section and tell X that you have a 7 button mouse. (scroll up and scroll down are actually the 4th and 5th buttons)

The breif how-to I found a while back said that there aren't programs yet that really listen to them, so it went off on some tangent about another piece of software that translates mouse input into key strokes. To much hassle for me, at this point.

If I'm wrong, and web browsers (and others) listen for the 6th and 7th buttons directly, I would appreciate hearing it. Anything else on the topic is also welcome.
