Hi,evryone,
My first post just to say hello, and gain a little knowledge!!
I have just assembled my first computer and am installing Suse 10.2.I purchased my DVD from a local Newzealand agent and would like to obtain Installation instructions on this, any help would be appreciated. I am 81y/o and am not used to this modern technology,
however am willing to try!!So please bare wih me!!! I paid $35.00
for this disc and wonder if it is the same as the boxed version?
I originally come from a little place called Barrow in the U/K and settled in Newzealand in 1957.Travelled from 1944( british forces
India& Burma) then on to Merchant Navy engineering until 1957.so have seen quite a bit of the world around.
Best Wishes to all
Jimmyone
If you start the p/c with the DVD in the drive it should start up the install automatically. Then it is just a case of following the instructions on the screen. If you are unsure of anything just go with the default options for now.
If the DVD does not start automatically - you may have to alter what are called the BIOS. This is the basic system set-up instructions for all P/Cs). To enter the BIOS start up your computer and press the delete button or esc button. This will take you to an old looking computer screen and the option that you would need to look for is the boot order. You would then need to change this - so the first on the list is CD or DVD.
Once the DVD is running the set up - I would suggest that you choose the kds option rather than the gnone one. kde and gnome are the main two versions of suse but you might find kde more straight forword.
Once it is all set up running just have a play and see whta you think. If you hit any problems just post back here - with details.
I too just bought Open SUSE 10.2 and "Simply Mepis 6.0.1" from OSDisc.com.Neither of the cds will install and niether autorun. The only way to see what's on the disc is --run D: The Mepis cd is not recognised at all--totaly useless. When I go to the setup folder in SUSE 10.2 there is no setup.exe file and no matter what I do it refuses to install and sends me around and around.I em'd OSDisc.com and they said to insert disc 1 and reboot.I had the boot sequense set for drive D(dvd rom) as #1 I also tried starting with the disc in the dvd drive and it still wont auto run?Do I have a bad disc or is there something I'm doing wrong?I haven't run Linux for 5 yrs. and bought my distributions from Best Buy in boxed form and all wen't well back then.I had SUSE 8.0,Mandrake 7.2,Red Hat,etc.I'm still new to Linux as I never got good at running things with KDE.I just need to know if I should send the discs back for a refund and if someone would tell me where I could buy SUSE 10.2 over the net. Thanks
