IMHO all versions of linux provide opportunities and various levels of support for developers.

openSUSE itself is a stable platform, with forums which provide user self-help support.
openSUSE forums provide considerable voluntary support to users, particularly those interested in developing further, openSUSE thus SUSE.
There is encouragement for software developers, as acts like a testing ground to ensure changes in openSUSE satisfy core need of business for stability in SUSE.
