There never really is an accurate answer for such questions because the answers you get are just peoples personal opinions, preferences or based on their particular experiences. I think you are better of trying out different distros yourself and making your own conclusions because other peoples experiences or preferences may not be the same as yours.
Speaking for myself, because I have a very limited knowledge of linux.
I prefer Suse over Fedora because:
Suse always detects every thing.
sound card
tv card
printer
joy stick
e z nividia driver installatin
I've had many problems getting stuff to work with Fedora 5 & 6 mostly because I don't know what I'm doing.
Suse is better suited for me because of my lack of knowledge.
Also:
If your a dual booter, you may prefer the suse bootloader.
I've had to manualy set up the bootloader in Fedora to detect other OSs.
Suse never fails to detect other OSs.
If your new to linux, I'd say go with Suse.
If you know what your doing, then it dosen't matter.
Both are fine for browsing the 'Net. For that matter, so is every other operating system. Be aware that playing Flash video (such as those on YouTube) and windows media files (various news sites) will require the installation of additional packages to have those features function in Linux. They are not installed by default in most distributions to avoid possible legal issues. (Even though the software is free, it requires agreeing to a separate license, and most non-commercial distributions do not want to deal with them.) A quick search around this forum or the Internet will let you know how to add those.
