That could be part of it, but you can run 32 bit OSes on 64bit Arch. You probably shouldn't unless you have a reason though. With a P4 D, it is 64 bit, so get the X86_64 bit version of SuSE and try to install from there.

As for the other information, you need to get a system information tool and let us know the mother board chipset, ram, and other info. I recommend Aida32
But there are TONS of other information tools available, here is a whole list.

HP Media Center m7170n Desktop PC - Product Specifications

Your problem is most likely "Hard drive 250 GB SATA" I would guess that non of the distro's you've tried have initial SATA support so they can't find the hard-drive

Might take a while to download but try a Knoppix live CD see what hardware it recognizes and modules it loads in "lsmod"

I never said SUSE definitely won't work

Not sure if this will help or even work but I've been looking on Suse's support site

Nothing specific but try this

Quote:
Keep the Shift key pressed while booting. In this way, the rudimentary hardware detection of syslinux (the boot loader used on the CD/DVD) is suppressed.

Instead of a graphical boot menu, a text-based boot menu should be displayed.

Select the option that starts the installation

Ideally, the installation will proceed without any further problems. But even if this is not the case, you should now be able to see any error messages while loading the kernel.
At least you may see some error messages or as I said it may not even work

Will keep looking

Pete
