how to roll back kernal in suse10

hello:
I used yast22 updater and installed kernel security update 6 dec 2005 on suse 10.0. This new kernel apparently has no support for sata drives. my sata device /dev/sda5 is no longer visible. I confirmed this by commenting out the relevent line /etc/fstab and booting. The yast2 partioner no longer shows the device.

The device is there because I have used linux live cd (mepis) to copy the data from the drive. so it ahs to be that the new keranl simply dropped support for sata.

how can I roll back the new kernel updates which I installed. I have the suse 10.0 cd's and it has a rescue option.

thanx

As I said in your other thread, S-ATA support is still there, so no worries about this. I am happily writing this from a S-ATA-only system and I have installed the kernel update as well.

However, if you still want to downgrade your kernel, go into YaST -> Software Managment and search for 'kernel'. Now tick the symbol in from of the kernel-default entry (should be red) until the green recycle symbol appears and confirm with 'Accept'. Now you have the original version of the SUSE 10.0 kernel (2.6.13-15).

if your kernel is working tehn what are the other possible causes it is not showing up? ie.e just the sata /dev/sda5 while it shows up through the live cd versions

Have a look at your other thread. Maybe only a particular S-ATA driver is affected. I am using ata_piix (Intel).

I have done the kernel update, too. The kernel uses the nv_sata driver to acess my two sata disks. Without any problems.
