How to chown of folder...ie-/home directory

I'm going to upgraded my SuSE distro 11.0-11.3...so I backup my /home directory to a internal third HD (see below). After I did that I notice that the user and group changed from user=cbjhawks group=users to user=root group=users while looking at
HD #3.

I have three HD's in this box: 1. 80GB= linux 2. 200GB= WinXP 3. 250GB=Backup (for both OS).

I have a feeling that after I upgrade my OS and when I copied back my files to HD #1 (/cbjhawks/home) that I wont have full access to my /home directory...is that true? My UID is 1000 and my GID is 100.

Do I need to run the 'chown' command on that directory or how do I fix this issue?

Yup.

Assuming that you've copied the content of the back up to /home/cbjhawks, log in as root, cd /home, and enter chown -R cbjhawks.users cbjhawks.

Hope this helps some.
