how do I use the usermod command to add a comment to /etc/passwd

I need to add a comment to /etc/passwd using usermod, but everytime I do it tells me that I can't modify a user in the LDAP database without DN. What is DN?

DN == "distinguised name", e.g.,

Code:
dn: cn=username,ou=it,dc=your_company,dc=com
And no, if the machine has LDAP for authentication you
won't be changing the password file for a comment.

The OS shouldn't matter - the authentication method does.

If your SLES is set to use LDAP talk to your ldap/network
admin about the change.

Well .. in that case; when you installed SLES you must
have told it which authentication method to choose. I'm
sure LDAP wasn't default back when SLES 9 was current.

I'll move your thread to the SLES forum for better exposure.

Tink
