help with monitor resolution?

hi,
i recently switched from FC5 to suse 10.1. i expected everything to go smoothly but it didnt.

my monitor is samtron 56v. its not able to display at high resolutions. it gives me the msg "out of sync". but FC5 supported the same resolution. at the moment iam using 800X600. wat could be the problem.

thanks.

you should check in yast under hardware first to see if it detected all your hardware correctly. What resolution were you hoping for ?

Are you an ATI or Nvidia man ?

hi,
i was hoping for 1200x768. thats what i got in FC. i did run yast but it detected my monitor as syncmaster whereas mine is a samtron 56v. then after much trials i finally got it working. i even experimented with xorgconfig.

mine is a ATI. it is prosavage ddr which is been detected correctly.

thanks.

hi,

after much fideling with the computer, i found the solution. all i did was reduce the horizontal and vertical sync. suse detected these values correctly but was not able to adjust the refresh rate according to the resolution. i dont know if this is the best of doing this. if anyone has better ideas please do share with me.

thanks.
