Tonight I installed a couple of different programs into my linux distro (SuSE9.3) and now I can't login as user, only root. When I try to login it just goes black and then goes back to the login screen. I made a new user and was about to login, it's just the one name (with all my shit/files/prefernces saved). The programs I installed are:
kasablanca
and
yahoo messenger (rpm built for redhat but yahoo site said it would work)
the only way i can login that works is "failsafe"...
So I guess it's a problem with kdm. You could try to boot into command-line (type '3' at the grub menu) and login with your failing user-account (should work). Now try to enter KDE by typing 'startx'. If it doesn't work, you'll hopefully get some error messages that could help us.
