Help a newbie. Scanning questions

I am new to Linux in genaral. I have 3 more things to learn before I can completely remove windows from my laptop.

Helpful info, I am new to Linux, I use SuSE 10.0 on at Gateway GX7508 laptop, my scanner is a HP 1600 and is recognized and working.

1. I need to be able to scan multi-page documents using my Linux supported HP PSC1600, the file output should be in .tif format with CCITT FAX4 compression. The output has to be in this format due to restrictions by my company's billing system. As they will be emailed the CCITT FAX4 compression is desired for the smaller size. If anyone could instruct me in this area please feel free to email me at jdseek@gmail.com or post the info here.

2. I need a Wireless manager that works. I use ALLOT of different WiFi hotspots as a trucker. I need to be able to change wireless networks faster than underwear. I used to use gtkwifi for that purpose, but it is only available as a .deb . I tried to build an RPM from the gtkwifi.deb, it installed fine, but doesn't work. I have been told that an upgrade to 10.1 will fix that, If so, how does a guy with a Purchased 10.0 DVD upgrade to 10.1? Do I have to buy the 10.1 DVD? Or If I download the openSuSE 10.1 DVD do I loose anything over the Purchased version? I bought the DVD for the support and as this install is used primarly for my business, I would like to keep that.

3. I need to figure out how to do segmented (accelerated) downloads. In windows I used GetRight. What I am getting at is a faster way to download LARGE files. (Mainly DVD .iso's) with the ablity to pause and resume at my will.

Thanks for everything.

1. The tiff2bw program will do it. Install the tiff package if it is not there. "tiff2bw -c g4 input.tiff output.tiff" Run 'man tiff2bw' for more info on other options.

2. The NetworkManager package is supposed to be very nice, but I have not used it since I don't have a laptop anymore. If you really want gtkwifi you will have to grab the source from their CVS and try running it. It looks like it does not need to be compiled but I am running KDE so it does not want to work.

3. Wget will pause and resume. The KDE version is called kget and will integrate into konqueror. The Gnome version is called gwget.
