I just switched from Windows XP to SUSE linux 10.1. I have encountered the following problems:
1. when the background is white, I can see that each character on the screen has a shadow with it. especially when the contrast ratio is low (say lower than 60).
2. the computer has 4G memory, but the system can only recognize 3.2G.
I have tried both 64 bit and 32 bt system. The above mentioned two problems are encountered in both.
The configuration of my computer is as follows:
Motherboard: Asus P5LD2-VM Motherboard
with integrated Intel 950 GMA Video card
CPU: Intel Pentium D 950 3.4 GHz
Meomory: 4G
Monitor: Viewsonic VA912B
SUSE recognized graphics card as Intel 945G, monitor as VSC Viewsonic VA912-4 Series
Could any one can kindly help me out on these two problems.
i'll check once back at home what module it is using to see if it is a matter of not having the right driver.
I think the intel 950/945 is not open source, meaning it is not part of the default installation of suse, you might want to check if there is a package you could have installed off the DVDs, that you didn't.

Thanks! The SUSE Linux 10.1 I am using is a retailed one. I donot know if this make any difference. But anyway this retailed DVD didnot help on this.
Other than the said two problems, the system runs fine. I only notice that one thing is funny:
When I typed "echo $shell" and "ech $path", it shows nothing; while I typed "echo $0", it showed "/bin/bash".

I have a Dell laptop that has the 945 GM embedded card. I had 10.1 on it and it worked great, I could get resolutions of 1680 x 1050 but what I used was 1440 x 900. Now, after installing 10.2 GM, I cannot get anything higher than 1280 x 1024. This does not bode well for a widescreen monitor.
