I'm running on Suse 8 and i have the following problem:

i configured the machine to use DHCP ,and it recives a valid ip from the router,it can ping to the outside world using ip addresses ,but the DNS does not work.

I've configured (using yast2) to recive the DNS server from the router -and it didn't work.

I've tried to change /etc/resolv.conf and put in the ISP's DNS-and it didn't work.

I've tried to change the search list to ww.mydomain.org ,and it did't work.

All the rest of the machines(win XP) recive the DNS informatiom from the router without problem.

What is the problem?

Is the router smart enough to pass 53/udp AND 53/tcp? I've seen similar issues with routers that blocked 53/tcp on the incorrect assumption that it's only used for zone transfers...

How do i find out?

My router type is eci 312 adsl .

Why port 53?
