dialup disconnect immediately

I installed my hsf modem under Suse 9.2. I'm using wvdial. It seems to connect but straight after that it disconnects with the pppd error code 2 immediately.
The only program I could ever get this far is wvdial. The graphical diallers never even get there to connect, they refer to a smpppd error.
Below is the wvdial log.
Any ideas?

--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Idle Seconds = 300, disabling automatic reconnect.
--> Please enter password (or empty password to stop):
--> Sending: ATDT4842037010
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT4842037010
CONNECT 57600
--> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Sat Oct 15 06:17:21 2005
--> pid of pppd: 10379
--> Disconnecting at Sat Oct 15 06:17:21 2005
--> The PPP daemon has died: pppd options error (exit code = 2)
--> man pppd explains pppd error codes in more detail.
--> I guess that's it for now, exiting
--> The PPP daemon has died. (exit code = 2)

That reply really didn't help anyone, but thanks for trying.

Hi everyone,

I am having the same problem when I try to connect my VX4400 CDMA modem via USB.

In windows, I am able to use my VX4400 as a modem. Doesn't want to work in SuSE Linux 10.0.

I am using KDE and KInternet. I have an IBM R40 laptop with an AC'97 internal modem and a VX4400 cell phone with a CDMA modem. When I initially tried to use the modems, linux told me I had to install smartlink-softmodem drivers, which I did. I've tried the following rpm packages but I still get the same error:

smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-3.2.i586.rpm
smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-3.2.i586.patch.rpm
smartlink-softmodem-2.9.10-17.i586.rpm

Still the same error from KInternet Log:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on linux.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (Exit code 2)

Has anyone else had this problem and willing to share the fix?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

Dear " Alma ".

I hope you have got your problem sorted out already by some means.

If it still persisits.

Then try this...

1. Open /etc/ppp/options File in any Text edition like " gedit " " kwrite " etc.

and put # before all the lines starts with word " lcp "

These four line in options file look like the following lines..
*******************************************************
lcp-echo-interval 30

lcp-echo-failure 4

lcp-max-configure 60

lcp-restart 2

************************************

just after these fourth line there is very next which should look like the following...

idle = 300

replace this 300 or any value with 0

I am sure it should work.

Please say thanks

if it works

IT DOES WORK FOR ME.

I got the same problems

Thanks for responding Be. Unfortunately, this isn't working in my situation. I am trying to use my VX4400 Cell phone via USB and all I get is:

SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.59 on linux.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: pppd options error (Exit code 2)

dear " akabatman2 "

Most Probably your problem lies in USB Cable.

Even After so advancements in Linux, It is unable to support Modem on Direct USB Cable.

Same is with me.

I have Sony Ericsson P -800 Smart Phone with GPRS.

But when i try to connect P- 800 as a modem on USB Cable Linux does not detect my Phone or Modem of Phone.

But when i connect the same Cell Phone through Bluetooth or Serial Cable. Then It has no problem

I have been using GPRS on P-800 throuhg bluetooth Dongle ,since SuSE 9.1

So , What can i guess on my experince that it is all because of USB. Connectivity.

So try Serial Cable or If your phone has Bluetooth in built then it is the best option.

I hope it will help you.

Regards.
