Desktop applets in Gnome

Is anyone else having problems with the Desktop Applets in Gnome on 9.3?

The SUSEwatcher and SUSEplugger don't load properly into the panel and just sit on the desktop. I also have two display setting applets. It doesn't make any difference if I delete one, it reappears when I next log in.

Has anyone found a fix or will I have to wait for a fix from SUSE?

Yes, I was having the same problems. In fact at one point the display setting applets mushroomed to 6 in number. In solving problems like this I use the principle "if it doesn't work get a bigger hammer". :-)

I created a new panel to which I moved only the items of interest from the original panel. Left behind were watcher & plugger. When I finished tailoring the new panel I replaced the old with the new (delete old & move new to old's location).

Another thing that can be very helpful is to run gnome-session-save. This takes a snapshot of the current session. That snapshot is then used as the session on the next login. Be sure to run gnome-session-save in background unless you want the launching terminal to reappear on the next login.

Yep, have the same problem. I hope there will be a fix or something in the near future, because this is really annoying.
