Broken Yast

I rectly was doing some updates on my Suse 9.1 system by changing the install location in YaST. The updates went fine but now when I open any of the modules it asks for my root password and then shuts down. Any ideas??

This usually happens when YaST does not like the RPM's that you are sourcing from the new install location. Disable that location and any other ones that you have recently added, and then run YaST again. Does it now function properly?

It won't even let me open the modual that lets you change the installation source.

If you can't open any of the modules in YaST then you might just have to get out your install disks and do a System Repair. By that I mean that if all of YaST is broken you will either have to re-install that application or attempt to do the same auto-magically via a System Repair (which will hopefully work).

To re-install YaST manually you will need to get the YaST RPM's off either the CD or a SuSE FTP site of your choice, place them in a directory and issue the command:

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

Or for individual packages:

rpm -Uvh filename.rpm

Actually, you might only need to re-install the Yast2core, Yast2Ncurses and popt RPM's. That might be something to try first and then progress from that point.

Thanks, I'll try this out sometime this week. (I can't go near my computer at the moment without getting pissed off)
