7.1 Surround possible?

I am running SuSE 10.1 on an ASUS A8V Deluxe with on board sound with a 7.1 surround analogue speaker system. ALSA says ACL 850 Rev 0, FWIW, and I think that it is a VIA 8237. I have been searching, but I don't seem to find anything. Can someone help?

If SuSE 10.X has the hwinfo utility, run '/usr/sbin/hwinfo --sound' from a console. It will tell you the name of the sound controller, and the module you need to have loaded.

Then, run lsmod to see if the correct module is loaded.

If it isn't loaded, do modprobe <modulename> to load it. Substitute the correct module name for <modulename>.
