[OpenSUSE 10.3] network interface don't come back up


My network interface (eth0) doesn't come back up after the system reboots. If I put "insmod /lib/modules/2.6.22.5-31-default/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.ko" in /etc/init.d/boot.local, then it comes back up.

Here is my /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 file:

Here is the error I get:

The kernel is 2.6.22.5-31-default.

It used to come back up when I first installed the O.S. but now it doesn't anymore.

For it to come back up again I need to reinstall the O.S (which I don't want to do).

I had a similar problem, and had to use a similar fix. Never did get to the bottom of it other than it appeared after a kernel upgrade. I was using 10.3 & KDE 3.5 on an ACER TravelMate, and neither the ethernet nor the wifi interfaces would come up despite them both being set to "Start on Boot" in YaST.

When I upgraded to Suse 11.0 the problem went away.
