missing plug-ins Firefox, Konqueror

I've got a webpage uploaded onto a a server where I've uploaded some video to test. The video plays on my MS machine and uses Quicktime. I thought I had downloaded the quicktime equivalent for linux, but still I can't view this video. There's a button to download the missing plug-ins. When I click it it reads "no suitable plug-ins found". Is there a better more generic file format and media player that all platforms can use? I was thinking flash but there doesn't seem to be any flash plug-in for linux either.

Apparently I can play any video out there but this one on my mock website (www.pajaro.comule.com)

In firefox, in the URL bar, type the following:
Code:
about:plugins
You will be able to see all of the available plugins and codecs that are being loaded. As far as a flash plugin, this is documented all over these forums, and on the internet. You just need to search around. As far as the quicktime plugin, here is one of the many links I have found on google - http://tuxradar.com/answers/252

Cheers,

Josh
