In terminal mode (not a terminal in X, but ye olde terminal, as in CTL-ALT-F1 from X, or booting into runlevel 3) my screen is 48 (or so) lines high (LINES) and 128 (or so) wide (COLUMNS). I frequently run an app that uses the old PC 80 x 25 layout - is there a good way to set the terminal to 80x25 (and back afterward)?

Do you boot with Lilo or Grub?

Grub. I saw somewhere a note about setting the vga level at boot time (the same one your friend Google found - I recognized the latin quote; Google in this case was not overly friendly, because I spent a good bit of time with it and got no closer than that, which is why I decided to ask on this forum), but I haven't pursued that because I'd like to be able to change the settings more or less at will without having to reboot... Red Hat X seems to have several terminals, and at least one of them gives the ability to set various parameters so that you can put it in 80x25 mode AND adjust the font size so that the effect is to provide a full screen - actually, I'd probably be happy to do it that way, in X, but - again - I've searched and not been able to find out how to script setting the window parameters and then running the old terminal mode program... I thought there might be some good way to set the "regular" terminal mode similarly. Heck, either way'd work - although I'd prefer to do it in level 3...
