Verifying Patch installation

I'm creating some documents on how to verify whether or not a patch has been installed if you have to do it manually (no external programs or anything). I'm practically brand new to Solaris (and actually I'm having the same issue with HP-UX 10/11 if anyone can offer help on that side as well) so I'm clueless as to how to check to see if a patch has been installed. Can anyone elighten me?

Just to expand a bit, as an example, Linux patches are actually either Kernel upgrades or new versions of software, so you just check the version numbers. Microsoft Windows patches are easy because they list all the installed patches in the registry.

Hi there,

I just did a showrev -p on my solaris x86 box and it shows many lines like this:

Patch: 108988-07 Obsoletes: Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWswmt
Patch: 111401-01 Obsoletes: Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWkcsrt
Patch: 108809-42 Obsoletes: Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWman
Patch: 110987-02 Obsoletes: Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWmccom

WHat does this mean? Also, i installed solaris 8 02/02. What patches do I need? Is there a list? If so, where can I download these lists of patches? Thanks!

Sorry, I thought you were just asking how to know what patches were already installed on your host.

The lines you see display the patch numbers, comments and the package the patch applies to.

If you want to download the recommanded patches go to:

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/patches/indexRec.html or the sunsolve site.
