I don't know about solaris running the net, but I can honestly say that solaris runs the US ARMY and it's infrastructure. The Army has been eyeballing open source. They are even starting to get thier feet wet using open source software on solaris. Thats about it and I can't say much more.

I'd just like to say BDS isn't "weird". I've used FreeBSD a lot and I found it to be a pretty smooth transition from linux (although I'll never fully give up Slack).
